Discover Egypt Nile Cruise

Discover Egypt is one of the UK’s largest specialist operators of Nile cruises. They are part of All Leisure Holidays which also operates the Voyages of Discovery and Swan Hellenic brands. They operate a year round programme to Luxor and the Nile using between 4-5 boats a week.

Discover Egypt are one of only a few operators who offer an All Inclusive Nile cruise onboard the 4 star Viking III. They also operate a standard 5 star boat the Viking Premiere and very recently have introduced the brand new 5 star deluxe Royal Viking. All of these boats offer a shop, lounge bar, restaurant, pool and sundeck. All cabins are air-conditioned with private facilities, fridge, telephone and television. In the case of the Royal Viking the cabins are of a higher spec and have a satellite plasma TV, a small sitting area with a large full length opening window.

The Viking III and Premiere are exclusively for Discover Egypt and the British market and the Royal Viking is approx 60% allocated to Discover Egypt with the rest going to the European market. All meals onboard the Viking fleet are full board buffet style. The Viking III being All Inclusive includes all locally produced alcoholic and soft drinks.

In addition to the Viking fleet Discover Egypt also operate the luxury Alexander The Great which is sold exclusively by them in the UK and also the Oberoi Zahra one of the most luxurious cruises on the Nile.

All of Discover Egypt'stours are accompanied by a guide or Egyptologists, and this means that their staff members are always available to assist with language barriers and other minor “nuisances” that can make such a wonderful trip a less than ideal experience.

A Nile River cruise is something that most people have never even considered. When we think cruising, we think a large ocean liner visiting ports in the Mediterranean, or even the Caribbean Sea. We think about a bustling casino, a full production stage show, and five-course meals enjoyed in luxury in an elegant dining room.

A Nile River cruise is an entirely different experience. While some of the river boats used for these cruises are truly luxurious, they are not what you think of when you think of a modern cruise ship. A cruise down the Nile River is a truly unforgettable experience. The Nile has been Egypt’s lifeline since ancient times and there is no better way to relive the course of Egypt’s history than by following that course along the Nile. As each new day dawns you have the opportunity to explore different sights. Some days you will just sit back and enjoy the view from your ship – a view that frequently changes, often with every single bend in the river.

A Discover Egypt cruise provides a great introduction to the remarkable sights of Upper Egypt and a cruise is perfect for those who want to sample the best that Egypt has to offer in one comprehensive tour. A Nile River cruise is also perfect for those travellers who may have mobility or other health-related issues. There is no easier way to see the sights than from the deck of a river boat. Even if one is limited in how much land touring you can do, you can still get a reasonably comprehensive view of the overall area without the need to do a lot of walking.

Discover Egypt offers several itineraries. One is called the “Classic Nile" itinerary, and it goes from Luxor to Aswan, making stops at some of the most spectacular ancient sites in the world. These include the Valley of the Kings which is where the Pharaohs, including King Tutankhamen, are buried. The tour also visits the temples of Karnack and Luxor.

All Nile cruise itineraries begin with a flight from the U.K. to Luxor. Upon arrival, travellers immediately transfer to their cruise ship for a seven-night cruise. Once onboard the boat, life steps down to a slower pace, as the scenery outside changes moment to moment. Passengers find themselves wanting to drop everything, and just sit and watch the world go by. Discover Egypt use guides, called Egyptologists, to escort passengers around the sights of Luxor and Aswan. In their spare time on the boat, they also lead the evening’s entertainment offerings.

Mealtime is special onboard a Discover Egypt Cruise, with either a sit down or buffet service. All food is included, just as it would be on a more traditional cruise ship. The only extras onboard would be your drinks, tips, purchases and any optional shore excursions purchased.

Passenger mix will be mostly Europeans, along with a smattering of Americans who enjoy “adventure” travel to far-off remote places. Discover Egypt Cruises are not necessarily for the budget traveller, but they aren’t unaffordable either since the cruises can be booked on a variety of boats, running the gamut from luxury accommodations.

Facilities for the disabled or those with impaired mobility are very limited in Egypt and they always encourage people to discuss with them the suitability of a visit to Egypt. Most vessels have to berth alongside each other requiring clients to pass through a number of boats to disembark and are required to travel along a narrow gangplank and climb a number of steps and it is for this reason that we do not usually recommend a Nile cruise to those who may find this difficult.

Finally they are able to offer a vast range of tailor made options and clients can usually combine a Nile cruise with any resort in Egypt.

Discover Egypt offers a holiday experience that is second to none in the European travel market.
