Fujairah is located along the Gulf of Oman. Of the seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates, Fujairah is the only Emirate that is not situated along the Persian Gulf. It is also unusual compared to the other Emirates in that is made up of numerous mountains whereas the others are predominantly desert land.
As a result of its mountainous region, the annual rainfall experienced in Fujairah is higher than the other Emirates as well. For the majority of the year the weather is warm with even the coldest months of the year seeing temperatures of 77 degrees Fahrenheit on average. It is during the winter months between October and March that this Emirate will experience most of its rainfall. During the summer months it is not unusual for Fujairah to experience temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Those visiting Fujairah should be aware that there is no rail or subway system to provide transportation around the Emirate. A solid highway system has been built and tourists will rely mostly on taxis to get where they need to go in Fujairah. Hailing a taxi here is very similar to what you would do when visiting New York City. Simply stand at the side of the road and raise your hand up to signal a nearby taxi. It is smart to discuss the rate charge before entering the taxi.
Close to Fujairah are the Ain Al Ghamour natural springs. People visit the natural springs every year in order to bathe in its warm waters which are said to have healing properties. Everything from arthritis to back pain is said to be alleviated by the Ain Al Ghamour natural springs. The water in the springs reaches temperatures of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
One site that visitors of Fujairah should make sure they see is the Al Bidya Mosque. The structure is 400 years old and is considered to be an engineering marvel. The entire Mosque was built out of mud brick. Tourists will notice that several domes have been constructed in the Mosque.
The Indian Ocean is close to Fujairah and those wishing to enjoy the beach and participate in numerous water sports will not have to look hard to find them. Boat tours are also available that travel around the Gulf of Oman where tourists can check out the islands that are located in the Gulf. Not all beaches near Fujairah are great for tourists so make sure to look around and find an area that meets your needs.
Along the coastline there are a variety of different reefs that are home to hundreds of fish. This presents a great opportunity to those tourists that enjoy diving as they will have plenty of area to explore. The waters also provide plenty of fish for eager fisherman as well.
Fujairah is predominantly a city of business and tourists may notice a lack of activities. Staying at resorts that have numerous activities located on the property is often a good idea.
