The climate is beautiful all year round; the winters experience temperatures between 15 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, while the summers reach an average of 25 degrees Celsius. The north of the island consists largely of rocky and mountainous terrain, whereas the southern part is smoother, flatter and consists of most of the beautiful beaches found on the island.
If you love to go bird watching, then Gran Canaria has various bird watching spots. The best spot is in Palmitos Park where people can spend the whole day bird watching. La Charca is also a very well known place to go bird watching. If you are more interested in reptiles you can venture off to the Cocodrilos Park where you will be able to see crocodiles and other animals. The list of nature places to visit is endless. If you love rocks you should not pass up the chance to see the natural rock formations that have taken unique forms and converted themselves into animal-like shapes in the mountain side. The rocks that you should visit are the Rana, the Cura/Fraile, the Peñón Bermejo and the Bentayga.
You can also visit Aguimes, which has a beautifully preserved church built into a cave side. This town is famous for its cave dwellings and scuba diving. If you are more interested in seeing the history and culture of the island you should visit the Museo Canario, which focuses on the archaeology and anthropology of the island, the Plaze del Espíritu Santo, the Cathedral and Casa de Colón. The most cultural event of the year is the Carnival, which passes through Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
