Locals call Grenada the “spice of the Caribbean”, probably because the island is known for the wide variety of spices grown there. As soon as you set foot on the island you can smell the sweet scent of nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla. In fact this island is very popular with shoppers who come specifically to buy them. St. George’s is the island’s capital and is one of the most picturesque cities in all of the Caribbean. The Nutmeg is probably the most popular eatery, where you can enjoy casual fare such as hamburgers, along with your favourite drink.

If you want a great view of the entire harbour, head up to Richmond Hill and Fort Frederick. From here you can also see the yacht marina, where all the expensive toys of the rich and famous are moored.

If you’re in the market for some great handicrafts, head to Annandale Falls Centre, where you can buy gift items such as samples of the many indigenous spices. From here, you can follow a well-marked trail that will lead you to the falls, where you can enjoy a swim or just admire the scenery and majestic waterfall.

A visit to Grand Etang might be another way to spend a day in Grenada. You can hike around the perimeter of this giant crater and enjoy its natural beauty.

While here, you should visit the National Park and Forest Reserve, where you can hike through a rain forest covered in ferns and other tropical foliage. Stop in at the Grand Etang Visitor’s Centre if you want to learn more about all the things there are to see in this area.

La Sagesse Nature Centre is the place to go if you want to learn more about the various plants that adorn this island. Located on a 98-acre plantation on La Sagesse Beach, you can follow the trails through this tropical garden and also learn more about the many birds that make Grenada their home. There is also a restaurant on the premises and lodging is available at the Manor House, which is situated within the plantation.

If it’s beaches you are looking for, Grenada has 80miles of coastline on offer. The most popular beach with tourists is Grand Anse.

Grenada boasts one of the most colourful harbours in all of the Caribbean. This horseshoe shaped shelter is where cruise passengers enter the island after being tendered ashore.
