Cruises from Half Moon Cay

Half Moon Cay or Little San Salvador Island, as it is also known, is one of the islands in the Bahamas group. It is popular for its beach and water based activities and is a private island belonging to Holland America, a cruise company founded in 1873.

Half Moon Cay has generally good weather all year round. Like other islands, in the Bahamas, such as Great Stirrup Cay, the hottest months are from June to August and the coldest from December to February. The rainy period is from May to November.

Half Moon Cay’s main attraction is its two-mile long beach, which offers a range of amenities. There are small air-conditioned beach cabanas where you will find showers, sun decks and even butler service. They are ideal if you have a group of up to four people. If you really need to relax, then there are beachside massages available.

As part of your Holland America’s cruise, you might want to try some of the activities available at the Water Sports Centres. You can rent sailboats, foam mats and aqua cycles. You might also like to try your hand at deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, jet-skis, scuba diving or simply swimming.

Half Moon Cay is an ideal destination for families, as you can make use of the basketball and volleyball courts located on the island. If you love snorkelling, then there are excursions available. There are also excursions, including an Eco Lagoon Tour and an island biking tour.

If you are planning a holiday with a group of friends and you have something to celebrate, then Half Moon Cay has a Private Oasis Cabana on the beach that you can rent and which comes complete with a water slide and hot tub. Private functions or parties can be arranged for groups of up to 25.

If you need even more adventure, then stop by the AquaTrax Watercraft Adventure, where you can enjoy a guided watercraft tour of the shore and sea. It’s the perfect attraction for those who enjoy exploring. If you love horseriding, then there is the opportunity to enjoy a ride around the island and along the beach.

If you are looking from something a little different to just water activities, then you can go hiking and check out the island’s wildlife on one of the nature trails that crisscross the island.

For children, there are activities such as treasure hunts and banana boat rides. Beach parties are also organised and are ideal for those looking for a fun day.

There are many places to eat, including The Food Pavilion, where you can enjoy a barbecue style buffet. On a hot day, you may wish to stop by the ice-cream shop or choose from a selection of cocktails and cool drinks from the bar.

For shopping, stop by the West Indies Village, a shopping centre that offers souvenirs and gifts.

Half Moon Cay has plenty of attractions and beautiful sights to make your break both adventurous and relaxing.
