Hobart is located in Tasmania, has a population of over 205,000 in the greater area and is one of Australia’s oldest cities. The city, which is the largest in Tasmania, is probably most famous for the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

The city has a mild climate, with summers that are either warm or hot and winters that are cool or cold. The rainy months are usually April, July, August and September. It is best visited during summer, which is from December through to February and the weather is at its most pleasant in January, when temperatures reach up to 17°C.

Hobart has many sandy beaches for you to enjoy, such as Lords Beach, Nutgrove Beach, Short Beach and Cornelian Beach. These are all perfect for those who love to relax and engage in activities such as snorkelling, swimming, surfing, scuba diving and sunbathing. In addition to these activities they are ideal for beach games, outdoor picnics and barbecues. All the beaches also have a selection of beachside cafés, bars and nearby playgrounds for children.

Hobart offers many attractions that are perfect for families. For example, you must visit Antarctic Adventure, which provides a representation the Antarctic region, where you can experience what life is like in that remote continent. There is snow for children to play in and wildlife to explore. There is also an Arctic igloo, a video simulation and a planetarium. Another great family attraction is the Bonorong Wildlife Centre, where children can experience the wildlife up close, including koalas, Tasmanian Devils, wombats, kangaroos and other creatures.

Tatteralls Hobart Aquatic Centre is a fun attraction for the family, with a large swimming pool where you can practice your dives. Children will love the whale slide and water jets and there is a bigger slide that is suitable for adults and teenagers.

If that isn’t enough to keep your family going, then be sure to stop by the Tinderbox Marine Reserve, where you can swim, snorkel, scuba dive and view the fascinating sea life. For kids who love horse riding, stop by the Seven Mile Beach and South Arm areas, where pony trekking and horseback riding are offered by trained professionals.

For a bit of culture, stop by attractions such as Moorilla Museum of Antiquities, where you can view a selection of artefacts from Egypt, Africa and other countries. There are guided tours available so that you can learn all you need to know about these fascinating objects. To learn about early Tasmanian military history, visit the Military Museum of Tasmania, where you can see many interesting displays and exhibits.
