Cruises from Luxor

Luxor is a fabulous city located on the Nile River Valley in Egypt. It is one of the more developed cities for tourism and it has so much to offer to the visitor, such as ancient tombs and temples set against the fantastic scenery of the river Nile and the desert. As a traveller you will have minimal problems finding a place to stay that is up to your standards and comfort level.

Luxor has been divided into two sections, the East Bank which is the more modern area of Luxor and the West Bank which is the ancient city where you will find the majority of ancient places such as the temples and tombs.

On the East bank of Luxor you will be able to enjoy the Luxor Temple, the Temple of Karnak and various museums regarding ancient and modern day Egyptian history and culture, such as the Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum.

On the West Bank of Luxor you will be to find a variety of ancient spots such as the ruins in the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens as well as the ruins in the Western Valley. In the West Bank you can also view the Ramesseum, Deir al Madinah the Colossi of Momnon, Malkata and the Deir el Bahri. Other places that you must go include the Tombs of the Nobles and the Medinet Habu.

If you are interested in viewing the spectacular scenery then you should take a walk from the Valley of the Queens to the Valley of the Kings where you can cross the desert and hike over cliffs.

The most stunning place that Luxor has is the Valley of the Kings. This site is an archaeological gold mine. Nearly every pharaoh that has reigned in Egypt during the New Kingdom era was supposedly buried here, including Tutankhamen and the Sons of Ramesses II. This site is constantly being worked on, as more and more kings are found during excavations. You can purchase tickets to see three of the tombs, if you desire to see more than three than you have to buy more tickets.

However, the only tomb that is not included in the deal is that of Tutankhamen. At one time it was fully intact, but today most of what was there has been removed and shipped off to museums.

The Valley of the Kings is separated into three main sections Phase One Tombs, Phase Two Tombs and Phase Three Tombs. In the first part you will see the Tomb of Thutmose III. In the second you will view the tombs of Horemheb and Merneptah. In the final tomb are you will see the tomb of Ramesses VI. This final tomb seems to be one of the most popular because of the clear depictions and its good preservation.

Luxor is well worth a visit if you are in Egypt. It is one of the most fascinating cities that you will find in the country.
