Cruises from Naples

Naples, an ancient city in southern Italy, has an important history of art, and culture. On the coast of the Gulf of Naples, you’ll find Naples sitting halfway between Mount Vesuvius and the Phlegraean Fields. UNESCO registered the city’s historic centre as a World Heritage Site. The city boasts of having one of Europe’s largest areas with more than 3.8 million people. Naples has 448 historical churches and the city of Naples is characterised by a number of palaces, castles, piazzas and so on.

You will find Piazza del Plebiscito, the central piazza of the city, amazing. The open city square was the handwork of two people - Bonapartist king Joachim Murat and Bourbon king Ferdinand IV; the former started the work while the latter completed it. To the east of this piazza is the Royal Palace containing some marvellous architectural designs. You will find, just close by, the Teatro di San Carlo, which is the oldest and largest Opera House in Naples. Naples’ shopping centre, known as the Galleria Umberto, is located directly opposite San Carlo, where you can enjoy shopping at its best.

Castel Nuovo is another beautiful sight to see, not only because of its beautiful architectural designs, but because of its underlying importance to some historical religious events. Castel Nuovo was built during the reign of Charles I, Naples’ first king.

Other ancient castles are the Norman founded Castel dell`Ovo, which ranks first in importance and the Sant`Elmo Castle. Tourists relish the opportunity of visiting some of Italy’s most important museums, such as Naples National Archaeological Museum, the Museo di Capodimonte, Certosa di San Martino, Pietrarsa railway museum, the Villa Pignatelli and Palazzo Como. Do not hesitate to visit one of Italy`s national libraries, the Biblioteca Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele III, which is also found in the city.

Naples is home to some of Italy’s fine cuisines and wines. The city has a long history of producing some of the best dining options, including the traditional Neapolitan pizza. The city took advantage of their past rulers’ delectable dishes throughout the ages, thereby combining their dinning concepts into rich cuisines. Neapolitan dishes came out differently from those of the Greeks, Spanish and French in the early 18th century. One of the city’s main ingredients is Spaghetti, which is usually eaten with a sauce called Ragù. You’ll find Naples’s range of meals enjoyable; some would even leave you yearning for more. Parmigiana di melanzane, spaghetti alle vongole and casatiello are other savoury dishes to expect in Naples.

Naples also treats its guests to some wonderful pastry dishes such as zeppole, babà, sfogliatelle and pastiera. Holiday makers that unwind in Naples during the Easter celebrations are well aware of these dishes, especially Pastiera. Alcoholic beverages are not left out of Naples’ wondrous offers; Limoncello is a lemon drink synonymous with Naples and Lacryma Christi is an example of the sweet wines you will find there. Naples, traditionally known as the home of pizza, offers its visitors culinary moments they’ll forever live to cherish.
