Cruises from Nassau

Nassau is the capital and largest city in the Bahamas. It has a population of over 210,000 and is famous for being used in several James Bond novels and films. It is also the location of the popular Junkanoo festival, a street celebration that starts in December and lasts until New Years Day.

With the odd exception, the weather is generally good throughout the year. The hottest months are from June to August and the coolest are from December to February. The rainy season is from May to November, when there is a slight chance of hurricanes occurring.

Nassau has many beautiful beaches to visit. There is Sandyport Beach, which has a residential area and Cabbage Beach, one of the areas more beautiful beaches, which is ideal for sunbathing, swimming and for the slightly more adventurous, snorkelling, parasailing or water skiing. Also worth visiting is Montagu Beach, which is near to Fort Montagu, an historic fort built in the 18th century. Goodman’s Beach is a popular place for jogging and other exercises and has many facilities suitable for children.

If you enjoy historic attractions, then visit Old Town, which has a variety of old and interesting buildings. The Old Parliament Building, which is just ten minutes away, has a statue of Queen Victoria and is an interesting attraction for anyone who enjoys visiting historical buildings.

The National Art Gallery of the Bahamas is also worth a visit. Here you will find a selection of Bahamian art from past to present day. The gallery is a renovated building and is worth a look, even if you decide not to go inside. For children, there is the pirate museum, where you will see a pirate town, a battle and a ship, as well as a selection of other interesting artefacts. Guided tours are available.

If you enjoy wildlife, then visit the Ardastra Gardens, zoo and conservation centre. Here you will find a selection of parakeets, which you can feed and there are marching flamingo shows. The zoo is the only one in the Bahamas, so be sure to stop by before you leave.

In addition to these great attractions, you can also take a bus tour to various locations throughout the city. During the tour, you will see many old forts and learn all you need to know about the city. You will also have the chance to see Paradise Island, which has been used as the location for several films.

If you are looking for nightlife, there are a number of casinos, pubs and nightclubs, where you can enjoy a variety of music. One club worth visiting is Fluid Lounge, where top DJs play excellent music.

There is a wide choice of places to eat, from top restaurants to fast food chains, with many places including local Bahamian cuisine on their menus. If you are on a tight budget, then eating out may be a little expensive, but there are sure to be options to suit all pockets.

For shopping, there is the Straw Market and top stores can be found on Bay Street. If you are looking for a selection of crafts and arts then stop by the Bahama Craft Centre.

Nassau has much to offer everyone, from relaxing beaches, water-sports for those who love adventure and a busy nightlife for visitors who enjoy an evening drink and a dance with friends.
