Ponta Delgada is a Portuguese settlement island created by volcanic eruptions and is set in the Atlantic Ocean off of the north coast of Africa. This island is exceptionally beautiful with a mountainous terrain and a spectacular body of fresh blue water. It is an island whose economic means generally derive from tourism. There are many adventures to be had whilst visiting this stunning island.

Ponta Delgada is the main city on the San Miguel Island and is also the autonomous area of the country of Portugal. It is a tranquil city with less than 50,000 inhabitants, making it a perfect destination for travellers who do not want to be in an overcrowded city area. For a taste of local culture, many people enjoy visiting the suburb of Fajã de Cima because it holds multiple festivities on the island all year round. A popular spot is the São Roque because a new marina and sidewalk, which holds various souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants, has recently been built.

The island of Ponta Delgada is mild all year long. The winter low is around 57 degrees Fahrenheit while the summer high is about 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The water also fluctuates between these two temperatures, correlating its temperature with the season.

There are many hiking adventures to participate in as the terrain is almost completely made up of mountain ranges. These mountain ranges overlook the sea and offer some of the most breathtaking views of rocky cliffs played against bright blue waters. You can tour the mountains on your own or go with a guide.
Many people also like taking tours around the famous lakes of Ponta Delgada, these include Sete Cidades, Canário, Carvão and Rasa. These lakes are settled in the Sete Cidades mountain range. You will also notice that along the beaches there is just as many silky white sanded beaches as there are black sanded beaches, which are a result of volcanic ash.

Ponta Delgada also has a wide variety of unique flora and fauna, which the traveller can discover by hiking through the island and visiting certain destinations. Some of the flora and fauna that one may see include the following species: beech, cedar, holly, hearth, cryptomeria, laurustine, heather, laurel, Vidália, ferns, Erva Leiteira and Bracéu.

Like any other European nation, Ponta Delgada is faithful to its soccer leagues as well being the home to various cubs which include the following soccer teams: Clube Desportivo Santa Clara, Clube União Micaelense and Marítimo da Calheta.

Ponta Delgada is a quaint city that has not been bombarded by major waves of tourism and international companies. It is very much a small time town with local shops. It is highly involved in religious activities as it has twenty four parishes in the city alone. Ponta Delgada is a wonderful place to visit on vacation.
