Port Douglas is a town located in Queensland, Australia. Although the town does not have a great number of permanent residents, the population does grow due to the amount of tourists that it receives. Port Douglas is conveniently located near to popular areas such as the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Forest.

In North Queensland, the region where Port Douglas is situated, there is a tropical climate, with warm summers and mild winters. During June to October, which are the cooler months, the temperature in the evenings averages between 17°C and 29°C. For the other months in the year, the temperature is usually between 19°C and 32°C.

One of Port Douglas’s most famous beaches is 4 Mile Beach, which is surrounded by tropical forests and bathed in warm sun. This is the perfect place to enjoy activities such as sunbathing, swimming, sailing and surfing. It is conveniently located close to the shops, cafés and restaurants of the Port Douglas area. You might also like to explore the golden sands of the tropical Oak Beach, which is only ten minutes away from Port Douglas by car.

Port Douglas’s rainforests are definitely worth visiting. One of the most popular is Daintree Forest, which was added to the World Heritage list in 1988. Here you can take a guided tour, go bird watching, take a river wildlife cruise or engage in a variety of activities such as biking, horseback riding and fishing. You can even go on safari if feel the need for a little adventure.

For those who love aquatic activities, the Great Barrier Reef is the perfect attraction. Here you can go diving, fishing, sailing and snorkelling. A visit to the Great Barrier Reef is essential for anyone visiting the area and for those looking for a fun-packed day out.

If you decide to visit Cairns during your stay in Port Douglas, then be sure to stop by Cairns Night Zoo, where you can explore the nocturnal wildlife. While you are there you can enjoy a BBQ and then be lead by torchlight to discover owls, koalas and possums. Cairns Zoo is sure to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Port Douglas offers many activities for those who do not mind getting wet. WindSwell Kitesurfing, which operates on 4 Mile Beach, gives you to chance to improve your kite-surfing skills, with the help of experienced staff. You might also like to try out white-water rafting, which is operated by Foaming Fury on Russell River and Barron River.

For the even more daring, there are activities such as bungy jumping, balloon flights, skydiving, hang gliding and helicopter tours that offer fantastic views of locations such as the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests.

Port Douglas offers many restaurants, especially in areas such as Macrossan Street. Some offer seafood and there is also a range of other great cuisine, all accompanied by a lively atmosphere.

For shopping, visit the Sunday Market, which is held every week and offers a selection of jewellery, gifts, clothes and food such as vegetables and tropical fruit.
