Cruises from Puerto Limon

Limon is a lovely city in the South of Costa Rica. It is also frequently known as Puerto Limon. It has a very relaxed vibe, due largely in part to the Jamaican descendents and their unique and laid back culture. The weather is generally nice all year round, although sometimes it’s plagued with severe thunderstorms. However, in the summer it is usually hot all day long so remember to pack your sun block, sun glasses and visor when you go out for the day in Limon.

Mostly, Limon is known for its tranquil and beautiful Caribbean beaches as well as some outdoor activities such as water rafting. The best two rivers to water raft in are the Pacuari River and the Reventizon River. The latter has class two rapids which are for beginner white water rafters.

Other things you can do in Limon include going on a tour of the jungle where you will be able to see the wild life of Limon, including sloths and different snakes and insects. If you like Iguanas than you should check out the Iguana Conservation Tour at the Iguana Verde Foundation

Limon is known for its tourist agencies, so no matter what you want to do you will be able to find it at an excellent price around town. There are also many cruise ships that leave and pass through the Port of Limon in case you are interested in visiting nearby countries such as Panama.

If you are looking for some tranquil surfing you can check out the beaches Salsa Brava and Cockles. You will be able to ride the waves as a professional or get in a few surfing lessons if you are still only a beginner. Another Beach that is famous in Limon is Puerto Viejo. You will see many American and English people here as this is where English is always spoken.

There are various National Parks on Limon, such as Cahuita and Manzanillo. You can either wander round on your own or take a guided tour. They are phenomenal; due to the amount of rain that the area receives everything is green and lush and never dried out. .

Even though the national language of Costa Rica is Spanish you will find that many of the locals speak English in Limon. There are various Creole versions of English that were formed from the Jamaican settlers to the region. Some things may not be easily understood in these Creole forms, but it is much easier especially if you do not understand Spanish.

In Limon, there is also a huge celebration held every October for a week that depicts the day when Columbus set sail from Limon’s Caribbean port. It is very fun and exciting to see this festival as you will be able to see a large part of Costa Rican and Limon culture.

Limon is a great place to check out if you are looking for a fun and relaxing experience with lots of things to see and do.
