Puntarenas is a lovely area off of Costa Rica full of exciting adventures. It is located on the Pacific Side of the country and is home to various beaches that run along its coastline. The weather is beautiful year round; no matter what time of year you go to Puntarenas you will be sure to find lots of sun.

In the Province of Puntarenas there are a variety of different beaches that you can go to. Some of the best beaches are located at the southern tip with some on the Gulf of Nicoya side and the others on the Pacific Side. These beaches include Tambor, Montezuma, Mal País, Santa Teresa and Cabuya. You will find that the majority of these beach towns are very tranquil and safe, even when you are out walking along at night.

These beaches are known for big waves and beautiful blue waters, and the best surfing can be done at these beaches. Therefore, there are a variety of places that offer surf lessons in case you are a beginner at it all. There are a variety of activities that you can enjoy while at these beaches. Some of the highlights of a trip to Puntarenas include snorkelling and scuba diving trips, sport fishing trips and canopy tours. There are a variety of agencies on the premises that can help you find the perfect day tour so you do not have to worry about booking so far in advance.

You can also go to the Puntarenas beach which is located in the city of Puntarenas. It is easy to travel to any of these locations from Costa Rica’s capitol, San Jose. To get to Puntarenas city, you can take a direct bus that takes about two to three hours. When you get to the bus station the beach is straight ahead. You can stay there or get onto a local bus that will take you to a variety of other great beaches.

There is also one of the most important Costa Rican ports located in Puntarenas, called Caldera. Here there are a variety of cruise ships that dock and can take you to different areas. Another experience to behold is a cruise of the Nicoya Gulf by ferry which takes about an hour. This ferry connects you from one side of the province of Puntarenas to the other, where you will be able to get to the other beaches such as Montezuma and Mal País.

Monteverde is a town which holds one of Costa Rica’s natural seven wonders, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. You can take a guided tour through the preserve. Monteverde is a small town near Puntarenas city and you can get there by bus. There are less than one thousand people that live in this small community.

Puntarenas is a great place to go on vacation, whether you like to hike up mountains or hang out by the beach. The atmosphere is serene and relaxing, making it the perfect holiday getaway spot.
