The Tourist Board in the Falkland Islands is looking to boost revenues in the wake of the global recession. The board has recently begun a marketing campaign that is targeted towards the UK cruise market.
The campaign will be launched with the help of the Guardian newspaper. Travellers considering a cruise holiday in the Falkland Islands will be able to visit a special microsite that has been integrated with the Guardian’s website. The microsite is expected to be viewable for a total of 8 weeks.
According to the Tourist Board’s general manager, Jake Downing, “Guardian newspaper readers are affluent, well educated, well travelled and have a keen sense of adventure. For this reason we chose to work with the Guardian to promote our beautiful islands.”
Downing also noted that people who read the Guardian newspaper tend to research potential holidays online. The Falkland Islands microsite will offer prospective cruisers an impressive photographic gallery of the many sites that they would be able to see during a visit. The site will also feature plenty of information about the different things there are to do during a visit to the Falkland Islands.
The Tourist Board is hopeful the microsite will help to boost the awareness of the Falkland Islands. Downing said that a print advertisement does not provide the same type of informative resource and is not as effective as an online site like the one that was created for the Falkland Islands.
